I Did Webinars On Visual Analytics!

Sarka talked live on the internet!

I did two webinars on visual analytics in August and September 2020. And I have to say, I’m pretty proud of them. The first one focused on (science-based) arguments why good visual analytics matters. The second one was more about dashboarding and tons of great inspiration.

Hello world!

I’m Sarka – I love data and the world we live in. I’m fascinated by Big Data and small data, how they impact our society as a whole and individuals as well. I believe in a combination of data with social studies. Together, they make a powerful tool not only to understand human behaviour but also to make this planet a better place.

I love learning about data analytics and data science, security, sustainability, data misuse and social media.

I also enjoy travelling, hiking, books, movies, etymology, and reading Wikipedia. Live is a never-ending inspiration for data analysis.

Interesting Reading

Ten Arguments For Deleting Your Social Media Accounts Right Now by Jaron Lanier ★★★★☆

If you ever considered quitting social media, you probably already have some arguments in your head. Even if it never crossed your mind, it’s still a good book to read to see this world through someone else’s – a Silicon Valley computer scientist’s – eyes. FOMO and kittens shouldn’t ru(i)n your life. (Tech, Sociology, Philosophy)

Big Data by Brian Clegg ★★★★☆

Everyone needs to realise how important data is in our day-to-day lives. Great reading also for people who don’t understand computers that much thanks to real life examples. (Tech, Popular Science)

The Cyber Effect by Mary Aiken★★★☆☆

Lots of cyber-psychology involved. How we effect our new generation by bringing them up with an iPad in one hand and an iPhone in the other? Sometimes a bit too paranoid and judgmental for my taste but still worth reading. (Psychology, Tech, Sociology, Psychology)

Ctr Alt Delete by Emma Gannon ★★★★☆

When you need to understand millenials (or you – like me – would like to recall all the weird stuff we did as kids back in 2000), read this book. You’ll laugh with us at us. (Memoir, Tech, Society)

Post Truth by Matthew D’Ancona ★★★★☆

Data are not our saviour but when we deliberately ignore them, poor judgement, ill decisions and feelings replacing science become a new norm. This book has everything: Donald Trump, vaccination & autism, Brexit, climate change. (Politics, Philosophy)
